The big problem with pallets

Nowadays, the increase in market competitiveness requires companies to adopt measures aimed at improving their profitability.

In any large company, the choice of packaging type can result in a significant reduction in handling, storage, and transportation costs.

There is a relationship between logistics costs and packaging, both direct (costs of purchasing containers and packaging and managing their waste) and indirect (productive costs of packaging and wrapping, physical distribution costs, or costs from claims and breakages).

It is precisely in the indirect costs where one can observe one of the existing issues regarding the packaging of palletized loads:

The instability of the load, which arises when there is not a good relationship between the thickness of the film used—and therefore its pre-stretch ratio—the number of turns applied, and the tension regulation against the load.

At Movitec, we ensure the stability of any palletized load, as our machines perform electronic and self-adjusting tension regulation, adapting to the type and perimeter of the load, ensuring the maximum possible pre-stretch, which directly contributes to greater film consumption savings and the consequent reduction of waste. In this way, we also help reduce the direct costs of packaging.

A critical case is mixed pallets, which come from picking processes in industries or companies dedicated to logistics and distribution.

Generally, these loads are very irregular and unstable and often have an incomplete top layer.

Our range of wrapping machines can self-adjust to prevent load shifts and consequently vary the wrapping based on the gaps detected on the top of the load, facilitating the wrapping of such incomplete or irregular loads.

Through tension control, we determine how to apply the plastic film and regulate the force against the load, and with pre-stretch, we control the amount of film supplied.

By interpreting the type of pallet and collecting this vital information, we are able to adapt the wrapping process.

What may seem complicated at first glance, our Saturn machines make simple.
